Comparison of Michelin and Gault Millau ratings: 2025 update
It's been a year since my analysis of restaurant scores and both Michelin and Gault Millau have published new editions with updated scores. The perfect oportunity for an update on my analysis!
This is just a quick follow up, to get full context of what we're doing here I higly recomend reading my post on the original 2024 analysis first.

The first thing I looked at was the average Gault Millau score of the three rating categories of Michelin and wether they changed a lot from last year. I would say they did not, at most there was a 0,15/20 point difference between averages. Leading me to conclude that there is a high consistancy over time regarding these averages.
Afterwards I checked if there were some interesting outliers again. Many were the same restaurants from last year, since their scores didn't change on either rating system.
Those from last year that didn't reappear where mostly due to closures. Additionaly, l'amandier got a slighly lower Gault Millau score while La botte gained it's first star (congratulations), resulting in more agreement between the two scoring systems regarding these two restaurants.
Lastly there are 3 newcomers in the outlier listings (not new restaurants, just new outliers).
In the tables below the rating changes are indicated with an arrow (2024 on the left and 2025 on the right). When no arrow is present the ratings are the same in both years. The struck through lines are outliers from 2024 that are no longer in the outlier list of 2025.
Remarkably high Michelin scores
This means 2025 is a slightly less interesting edition for visiting outlier restaurants. The high Michelin scorers are less extreme and lost their 2* representative. While the high Gault Millau scorers remained largely unchanged. The good news however, is that their consistancy over time makes them a more reliable indicator of the differences between the two rating systems which makes the more interesting to try out.
- Bon appetit.
